Luminescence induced by visible excitation saturates at lower intensities for longer luminescence lifetimes; STED microscopy, which exploits this property, achieves spatial resolution beyond the diffraction limit in the visible spectral region. When extending the STED concept to X-ray–excited scintillator luminescence, competition is expected among X-ray–induced luminescence, stimulated emission, and multiphoton absorption–induced luminescence; these processes are difficult to distinguish under simple simultaneous irradiation. In this study, we demonstrate the potential to discriminate among them using time-resolved luminescence measurements.
