This lecture will provide an overview of recent developments in AI for Science, highlighting how generative AI and agents are transforming research methodologies, as well as the importance of explainable AI. In particular, it will outline the current state of XAI using physics-based AI—specifically, the Extended Free Energy Model—and discuss the prospects of XAI4S (Explainable AI for Scientific Discovery) in accelerating scientific discovery for a broad audience.
