Hokkaido University has established Institute for Frontier Education and Research on Semiconductors (IFERS) to promote semiconductor research and development and human resource cultivation in collaboration with external partners. Its educational and research strategy is built on three core pillars: “Create,” “Activate,” and “Integrate.” Under “Create,” the university advances interdisciplinary, high-level research by integrating knowledge across fields. “Activate” focuses on practical education through a prototyping environment that enables hands-on experience from design to manufacturing and evaluation. “Integrate” emphasizes strengthening collaboration among academia, industry, and government to accelerate the social implementation of technologies. This comprehensive approach has been articulated as the university’s “Semiconductor Vision,” aiming to foster talent equipped with strong technical expertise and creativity, while driving sustainable innovation in the semiconductor field.
