Self-propelled ion gel moves spontaneously by surface tension gradient. The motion gradually slows down over time. We think decreasing speed of ion gel is attributed to an increase in the concentration of EMIM-TFSI in the water due to eluting EMIM-TFSI from the gel, and the resulting decrease in the surface tension of the water. We observed the gel motion on the EMIM-TFSI aqueous solution surface and analyzed the surface tension of the aqueous solution. The speed of ion gel and surface tension of EMIM-TFSI aqueous solution decreased as the concentration of EMIM-TFSI increased. These results indicate the dependence of self-propelled ion gel motion on EMIM-TFSI concentration. We also report on the relationship with the self-propelled ion gel many-body system previously reported.
