Zero-dimensional halide perovskites A2BX6 exhibit room-temperature self-trapped exciton (STE) emission due to exciton localization within isolated [BX6]2- octahedra, making them promising candidates for LED and scintillator applications. However, the quantitative relationship between the inter-octahedral distance and emission properties remains unclear. In this study, we employed (Na,Li)2HfI6, in which the [HfI6]2- inter-octahedral distance can be systematically controlled via Li substitution, and performed temperature-dependent photoluminescence measurements (15–375 K, UVSOR) together with DFT calculations. Multi-Gaussian fitting revealed a blue-shift of the emission peak with increasing Li content, as well as the emergence of a narrow emission component attributable to free excitons.
