The effect of pre-irradiation on the optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) properties of heteroepitaxial diamond (HED) was investigated. For HED with a nitrogen concentration of 1 ppm, the OSL sensitivity increased markedly with increasing pre-irradiation dose and reached saturation at approximately 400 Gy. In contrast, no enhancement was observed for the 3 ppb sample. These results indicate that the pre-irradiation-induced enhancement of OSL is strongly dependent on nitrogen-related defects in HED.
