We report on the application of silicon nanoparticles (Si NPs) to the inkjet printing. By depositing an ink consisting of Si NPs and a solvent, we fabricate a monolayer via the self-assembly of NPs. We demonstrate high-resolution structural color designs realized by the combination of inkjet printing and the strong specular reflection and iridescence of the monolayer. Furthermore, we investigate the asymmetry in reflection and transmission colors arising from scattering and absorption properties of Si NPs. We also discuss the potential applications for anti-counterfeiting.
