In order to enhance the photocatalytic activity, it is essential to use incident light efficiently and to suppress hole-electron recombination. The former can be achieved through the slow photon effect, while the latter is facilitated by anisotropic charge transfer. Aiming to enhance the photocatalytic activity by simultaneous use of both effects, control of crystal planes of a photonic photocatalyst was attempted by means of in-liquid epitaxial growth in this study.
