Electricity generated by solar cells sometimes shows a surplus condition on sunny days to maintain the grid power balance, when the generated electricity is consumed through the electrical grid. Chemical energy storage for converting electricity to hydrogen is a method for storing this surplus energy. However, a direct connection between a solar cell and a water electrolyzer causes the short lifetime of the electrolyzer due to the device's characteristics. This article discusses the requirements for systems that convert the electricity obtained by solar cells into chemical storage.
