Three-dimensional porous conductive substrates, such as titanium fiber felt, have the potential to improve photoelectrochemical performance compared to conventional flat substrates owing to their large surface area. Combining porous photoelectrodes made from such substrates with ionic polymers can mitigate limitations in ion and mass transport. This approach enables not only pure-water splitting without supporting electrolytes but also the conversion of gas-phase molecules such as water vapor and methane, highlighting its potential for diverse energy and environmental applications.
