In the decommissioning site of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, rapid and accurate identification of alpha contamination is essential under environments with mixed beta and gamma radiation. This study developed a novel alpha-ray detector using a two-layer scintillator and pulse shape discrimination (PSD) based on differences in scintillation decay times. The detector achieved high-precision discrimination between alpha and beta rays, and energy discrimination enabled the removal of radon progeny. Its effectiveness was demonstrated using contaminated smear samples and a continuous dust monitor, indicating strong potential for practical application in decommissioning sites.
