[15p-PA3-7]Development of HAUP-based method for simultaneous measurement of linear birefringence and dichroism near diagonal position in anisotropic media

In this study, the principle for simultaneous measurement of linear birefringence (LB) and linear dichroism (LD) based on optical configurations near the diagonal position where transmitted light intensity is maximized was derived using polarization analysis with Jones vectors and Jones matrices. Furthermore, this measurement principle was applied to LB and LD measurements of the absorption-free uniaxial crystal MgF2 and the cuprate superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ (Bi2212) single crystal, which exhibits significant absorption. The results showed that the LB and LD values obtained from the HAUP method near the diagonal position agreed very well with conventional measurement results.
