Recently, advances in microfabrication technology have enabled extensive research on pho-
tonic crystals. Due to their ability to control the propagation of electromagnetic waves, they
play an important role in broad fields of optical application. The purpose of this study is to
provide fundamental insights for these applications by analyzing the optical properties of di-
electric multilayer films, which can be considered as one-dimensional photonic crystals, using
both analytical and numerical methods. Specifically, this study investigated the incident
angle dependence of the photonic band gap’s width and position in a 31-layer TiO2/SiO2
film, as well as the effect of the multilayer’s scale on the behavior of scattered waves.
