Quantum Dots,Single Spin
Single spin carried by 3d transition elements in a semiconductor dot has been studied for quantum application. The studies on single Fe spin in CdSe self-assembled dots (SAD) demonstrate a large strain effect on the Fe spin states in SAD. In this study, we investigate the single Fe spin in CdTe/(Cd,Mg,Zn)Te single quantum well, to quantify the strain effect on the Fe spin state from experimental and theoretical sides. In the CdTe well, the exciton (X) will be confined also in the plane due to fluctuations in the well width and exchange-split with the Fe spin in the well. The Zn in the barrier layer make it possible to tune the in-plane strain in the CdTe layer. Regarding the calculation, we calculate the Fe energy level for ground and excited state and magneto-spectra. As a result, with the increase of strain, the lowest state of Fe2+ transitions from the mixed spin states at zero strain to the almost pure quantum states at a large strain, and the magneto-spectra changes accordingly.
