To reduce CO2 emissions, Ammonia-fueled Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) are gaining attention; however, the degradation of Ni-based electrodes due to nitridation at high temperatures remains a challenge. This study analyzed Ni plates reacted with NH3 under various conditions using soft X-ray microspectroscopy. The results suggest that chemical states on the surface are significantly affected by both reaction temperature and cooling atmospheres. In this presentation, we will discuss the nitridation mechanisms and state distributions based on spectral assignments and PEEM-based microscopic analysis of surfaces and cross-sections.
