Cu-doped CoGa intermetallic compounds exhibit high selectivity in alkyne hydrogenation reactions. In this study, soft X-ray PEEM was employed to investigate the surface electronic states in an element-selective and submicron-scale manner to clarify the origin of this behavior. In the 5% Cu-doped sample, Cu aggregation and slight oxidation were observed, indicating that the catalytic activity is effective over the entire surface.
