Cleaifying the mechanism of volcanic eruptions is important from the perspective of disaster prevention. We are attempting to develop a method to estimate the temperature of volcanic plume from pumice using X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) at the Fe L2,3 absorption edge. We considered the possibility of extracting detailed information by analyzing at nanoscale spatial resolution. We also discuss the results for other constituent elements (O, Al, Si, etc.), attempts at similar PEEM measurements on pumice samples, and prospects for future analyses.
