In this talk, we will first introduce the basic concepts of topological photonics, and then present the generation and utilization of topological optical states realized using semiconductor photonic crystals, including our latest research results. In this context, we will discuss the physical meaning and role of “vortices” and chirality in topological photonics. If time permits, we will also touch upon recent developments that go beyond the conventional framework of topological photonics based on band topology.
