D&I/DEI is currently facing headwinds in the United States, and companies, universities, and academic societies are quietly responding by changing the names of their D&I/DEI-related organizations. When and where did D&I and DEI begin and evolve around the world, and how has it evolved in Japan? This speech will unravel the history and background of this movement. What should Japanese companies and academia do now and in the future to create a society where diverse people, including women and men and people from overseas, can thrive? Hope to make this serve as a starting point of thinking D&I/DEI in Japan.
