With the aim of reducing shielding loss by introducing non-radiative regions below the surface electrodes in large-area PCSELs, we previously reported the successful formation of non-radiative regions in a 1-mm-diameter PCSEL by implementing in-plane distributions of the non-Hermitian coupling coefficient. In this study, non-radiative regions were introduced into 1-mm-diameter PCSELs with surface electrodes that partially block the emitted light, and the resulting enhancement in optical output due to reduced shielding loss was experimentally demonstrated.
