Liquid crystals are expected to find applications in millimeter-wave and terahertz-wave technologies; however, the development of liquid crystal materials with higher performance is strongly desired. In the development of novel materials, the establishment of appropriate evaluation methods is also important, and measurement techniques using waveguides have been proposed to date. However, as advances in liquid crystal materials have led to higher refractive indices, the excitation of higher-order modes in waveguides has become a concern. In this study, we investigate a measurement method that employs a compact waveguide of an appropriate size to ensure measurements under stable fundamental-mode conditions.
