Parametric down conversion (PDC) in the nonlinear medium is well-known as a generation method of quantum entangled photon pairs. In this study, strongly enhanced PDC via two cavity modes has been demonstrated in an AlGaAs/AlAs coupled optical microcavity with the periodic polarization inversion structure. The coupled optical microcavity is composed of two cavity layers and three distributed Bragg reflectors. When the optical frequency of the pump light coincides with the sum of two mode frequencies, PDC via two modes can be strongly enhanced in case the quasi-phase matching condition is satisfied by introducing the periodic polarization inversion. We designed the periodic polarization inversion structure appropriate for the coupled optical microcavity, and effectiveness of the designed structure was confirmed by calculating threshold pump light intensity for the PDC.
