Waves conserve frequency and energy at spatial boundaries, whereas at temporal boundaries the wavenumber and momentum are conserved, while energy is exchanged with the medium. In space–time media, wave control phenomena such as amplification and frequency conversion have been proposed. In this study, we develop a one-dimensional active mechanical metamaterial in which the physical parameters of the wave-propagating medium can be controlled in space and time, and we observe wave scattering induced by a boundary moving at a constant velocity in space–time.
