The fabrication of dense ceramics of Bi2SiO5 (BSO), a novel ferroelectric with spontaneous polarization originating from the twisting of SiO4 chains, is challenging because it is a metastable phase that readily decomposes at high temperatures. Cold sintering, a novel densification technique, enables low-temperature densification through the introduction of a transient liquid phase. In this study, we applied the cold sintering process to BSO to fabricate dense BSO ceramics.
