An intracavity-pumped Ho:YLF ring laser has been developed to achieve high efficiency and low power consumption in laser transmitters for future space-based Doppler wind lidars. The Ho:YLF ring laser intracavity-pumped by a Tm:YLF laser has a figure-eight cavity configuration. An output energy of 8.5 mJ was obtained in normal-mode operations.
