The purpose of this study was to improve the hydrogen generation efficiency of metal-free, highly durable a-SiC semiconductors. The raw materials were introduced into the chamber using a vaporizer to incorporate a high concentration of pyridinic N into the graphite framework of the previously prepared a-SiC semiconductors by plasma irradiation. Following 2 hours of UV irradiation in water, the surface-treated samples exhibited more than six times the hydrogen production of the untreated ones. This result indicates that the introduction of pyridinic N enhanced the catalytic activity for hydrogen generation.
