In recent years, photocatalysts capable of oxidative decomposition of pollutants have attracted attention. Currently, TiO2 has been widely used as a photocatalyst, but it has a problem that TiO2 does not work under visible light irradiation. At this point, a-SiC can address this problem because its optical gap can be controlled over a wide range. However, a-SiC has a problem that the efficiency of oxidative decomposition of target substances is quite low due to the photocorrosion of a-SiC surface during photocatalytic reaction. Therefore, the objective of this study is to develop a photocatalyst that can efficiently decompose target substances by forming a protective layer on the a-SiC photocatalyst.
