Carbon nanotube (CNT) spinning using gas discharge breakdown is expected to be a promising method that enables spinning of various kinds of CNTs, which has been difficult using conventional techniques. However, CNT filaments formed by this method tend to have low density and large morphological variations, making it difficult to obtain sufficient mechanical strength when they are used as twisted CNT yarns. In this study, we attempted to improve the stability of discharge behavior and CNT bundle formation behavior by changing the gas species in the discharge atmosphere.
