Dielectric metalenses composed of arrays of subwavelength-scale waveguide pillars enable control and manipulation of various degrees of freedom of light, such as polarization and wavelength, and are therefore expected to find new sensing applications. In this work, we fabricated metalenses that separate orthogonal linear polarizations as well as left- and right-handed circular polarizations. Linear polarization separation is achieved by introducing anisotropy into individual waveguides, while circular polarization separation is realized by combining anisotropy with rotational effects. The use of these lenses allows polarization imaging with a simple optical system based on a conventional image sensor. In this presentation, we report on a linear-polarization-separating metalens operating in the long-wavelength infrared region and a circular-polarization-separating metalens operating in the visible region.
