Lipid bilayers were suspended over microwells formed on a Si substrate using semiconductor microfabrication techniques. The fluidity of the suspended membranes was investigated using fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) method. This presentation reports on the effects of differences in microwell aperture shape and surface properties on the fluidity of lipid bilayers, comparing Si substrates covered with silicon dioxide (SiO2) or silicon nitride (SiN) thin films.
