Establishing a joint technology with low resistivity and high reproducibility is essential for the practical application of REBCO coated conductors. We have achieved low-resistivity joints with high reproducibility by using sonic-welding. However, the formation process of joint regions and their spatial uniformity, which are closely related to the joint resistivity, have not yet been sufficiently investigated. In this study, the spatial distribution of joint regions is clarified based on cross-sectional observations of joint samples, and the propagation behavior of joint regions during sonic welding is discussed.
