We investigate real-space residual currents in graphene during residual-current reversal under strong laser fields. We find that the two counter-directed residual-current components are not only distributed differently within the graphene plane, but also exhibit a pronounced out-of-plane height separation in side view. In particular, the current localized near the hexagon center appears farther from the basal graphene plane than the oppositely directed current on the honeycomb framework. Our results highlight complex 3D electron dynamics in graphene and the importance of resolving out-of-plane current structure.
