High-NA focusing of a radially polarized beam is known to generate a sharp focal spot dominated by a longitudinal electric field. This longitudinal field can be significantly enhanced compared to the transverse component under total internal reflection, specifically when focusing from a high- to a low-refractive-index medium. Here, we report on the focusing conditions required to efficiently generate the longitudinal electric field at such interfaces, based on numerical simulations.
