Hydrogen-ammonia interconversion technology is a key research challenge for practical implementation of clean energy systems. In this study, with the aim of establishing a plasma-based interconversion process, nitrogen–hydrogen (N2/H2) or nitrogen-ammonia (N2/NH3) mixed gases were introduced into a dielectric barrier discharge reactor to form a plasma reaction field, and NxHy active species were quantitatively evaluated. In the presentation, detailed reaction mechanisms are discussed while comparing the results with the ammonia synthesis cost achieved by N2/H2 plasma processes.
