Laser propulsion is a space transportation system that generates thrust using laser light emitted from the ground or a satellite as an energy source. Laser propulsion using laser-sustained plasma (LSP) does not require high temperatures or oxidizers and is expected to achieve a higher specific impulse than conventional chemical propulsion. In this study, we report the results of splitting a single laser beam using a diffractive optical element (DOE) to generate multiple LSPs and evaluating their absorption characteristics.
