We investigated the effects of protein adsorption layers formed in aqueous environments on the electronic states of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), focusing on the charge distribution within the adsorption layer and electron donation from amino acid residues. The interaction between MoS2 and large multimeric proteins has not yet been sufficiently understood, partly due to the complexity of their adsorption configurations and heterogeneous charge distributions. This work is expected to provide fundamental insights into the bio-device interface required for biosensor applications employing two-dimensional semiconductors.
