Hard disk drives (HDDs) have achieved large storage capacities by increasing recording density based on magnetic recording technology, however, their physical limits have become apparent in recent years. Ferroelectric recording offers the potential for further density scaling because domain walls formed in single-crystal thin films can be made extremely thin. The presentation will discuss the principles of ferroelectric recording and the technical challenges associated with applying this approach to HDDs, as well as its prospects as a next-generation storage technology.
