To elucidate the initial processes of femtosecond laser processing, time-resolved measurements of THz emission under strong excitation were performed for Cu, Al, and Si. While only pulse-like THz emission was observed under weak excitation, a characteristic delayed peak appearing several picoseconds later emerged under strong excitation for all materials. The weak material dependence of this peak suggests that it reflects ion dynamics that become prominent under high excitation conditions.
