O vacancies in rutile TiO2 tend to be condensed under the TiO2 surfaces. Photoabsorption in the rutile TiO2 with condensed O vacancies is studied with DFT theoretical calculations. Photoabsorption is found be proportional to the number of O vacancies, and does not correlate with O vacancy interactions. The photoabsorption is, however, influenced by the reduction of defect electrons because the energy levels change with the electron reduction.
