Although light is typically a transverse wave, it is known that a longitudinal electric field oriented along the optical axis is formed near the focus when tightly focused with a high numerical aperture (NA). In this study, we attempted to visualize this longitudinal electric field by focusing a radially polarized beam using a high-NA aspheric lens. As a result, we obtained a spatial distribution image attributed to the longitudinal electric field in the focal region.
