We have been investigating photoalignment behavior in π-conjugated molecules that do not possess photoisomerizable moieties. Recently, in our study of the photoresponsive behavior of several non-fullerene acceptor molecules in liquid crystals, we found that EH-IDTBR exhibits photoalignment behavior. In this study, we explored the effects of differences in side-chain structures on the photoresponsive behavior of liquid crystals by using a rhodanine–indacenodithiophene derivative, O-IDTBR, which has different side-chain substituents.
