Eu2+-activated Ca-Y-Si-O phosphors have been extensively investigated based on the concept of crystal site engineering. Ca-Y-Si-O compounds such as Ca3Y2Si3O12, Ca2Y2Si2O9, and Ca2Y8Si6O26 possess multiple asymmetric crystallographic sites, where Ca2+ and Y3+ share the same positions in the crystal structure. These multiple Ca/Y sites exhibit different crystal field strengths. Eu2+ ions occupying sites with a strong crystal field are expected to exhibit red emission under blue-light excitation due to f–d electronic transitions within Eu2+. In this study, we focused on the Ca2Y8Si6O26 phase and carried out the synthesis and evaluation of its photoluminescence properties. The Ca2Y8Si6O26 samples with higher Eu2+ contents exhibited red emission when excited in the blue-light region.
