An amorphous GdFeCo perpendicular magnetic anisotropy film was deposited on a flexible polyimide substrate. It has been found that the magnetic anisotropy changes due to external stress. To investigate the origin of this change for each element, X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) was performed under applied stress. Gd and FeCo are antiferro-magnetically coupled, and changes in XMCD due to stress were observed. Changes in interatomic distance were also observed using extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS), and the stress dependence of the magnetism of each element is discussed.
