The injection-seeded terahertz (THz)-wave parametric generator (is-TPG) is a high-intensity, single-frequency THz-wave source with a wide tunability from 0.4 to 5.0 THz. One of the key phenomena that requires experimental observation in is-TPG is the development process of THz-waves. By injecting a probe beam into the is-TPG and detecting the THz-waves inside the crystal via upconversion to near-infrared beam, we were able to experimentally observe the spatial distribution of THz-waves within the crystal—information that had previously been accessible only through simulations—and to visualize how the THz-wave development process changes with variations in the seed beam intensity.
