Laura Baijens has been a laryngologist at Maastricht University Medical Center since2003. In 2018, she completed a fellowship training in head and neck cancer surgeryat the same institution. She currently serves as the chair of the Department of Otolaryngology–Headand Neck Surgery at Maastricht University Medical Center and holds a full professorshipin 'Swallowing Disorders' at Maastricht University. Her research interests focus ondysphagia, particularly oropharyngeal dysphagia resulting from head and neck cancerand neurological conditions. Additionally, she chairs two clinical guideline committeesunder the Dutch Federation of Medical Specialists (FMS): one on oropharyngeal dysphagiaand another on (p)rehabilitation and aftercare in head and neck cancer. In 2023, shereceived the Fellow Award from the European Society for Swallowing Disorders (ESSD).
