東北大学・多元研と住友金属鉱山（株）は2018年から銅製錬を中心に非鉄製錬の共同研究を実施している。乾式関連4テーマ（精鉱燃焼メカニズム、マット物性測定、スラグ粘性への影響因子、マット-マグネタイト間反応性調査）で得られる成果を如何にして製錬現場へ展開するか、その方策につき具体的に述べる。
