The brain, alongside outer space, represents one of the final frontiers for humanity. While research and applications are advancing globally, Japan faces urgent challenges related to mental health, including a rapidly aging population, low birthrate, high suicide rates, and increasing cases of adjustment disorders.
Neurotechnology, an applied field of neuroscience that enables direct access to the brain's input and output signals, is opening up new possibilities—particularly through integration with psychiatry and artificial intelligence. At the same time, the importance of brain science is rapidly growing across a wide range of sectors, from healthcare and industry to national security.
As we look toward the social implementation of these technologies, collaboration among researchers, industry, and policy designers will be essential. This symposium will explore strategies to cultivate pioneering initiatives from Japan that may lead the world in this emerging field.
