[A-11-06]A Survey of Machine Learning Research on Rabbits

Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning have promoted their application in livestock farming, particularly for animal behavior recognition and health monitoring. However, compared with studies on cattle and pigs, machine learning research focusing on rabbits remains limited, and its overall research trends have not been systematically organized. This paper presents a survey of machine learning research on rabbits and categorizes existing studies according to their research objectives and methodologies. The survey reveals that current studies can be broadly classified into three areas: pain assessment, behavior analysis, and health management/support systems. Deep learning techniques utilizing video and sensor data have been widely adopted in these studies. However, challenges remain, including the lack of publicly available datasets and the high cost of data annotation. Future research is expected to benefit from transfer learning and self-supervised learning approaches, which can improve performance under limited-data conditions.
