In recent years, research and development of hollow-core fibers (HCFs) has been accelerating, along with active efforts toward their practical application. For the practical deployment of HCFs, coupling technology between HCFs and conventional solid-type systems, such as single-mode fibers (SMFs), is essential.Key challenges in this coupling include mode field diameter (MFD) mismatch caused by differences in MFD between the HCF and SMF, as well as reflections due to refractive index differences at the connection interface. Achieving both low insertion loss (IL) and high return loss (RL) is required.As possible solutions, spatial coupling using a lens system, and a method in which the SMF side is equipped with an MFD conversion function and its end face is treated with anti-reflection (AR) coating before forming a butt joint with the HCF, can be considered.In this study, we fabricated SMF-HCF coupling modules using both approaches and evaluated their optical characteristics. The results are reported here.
