Photonic crystalline fibers (PCF) have a structure in which voids are arranged regularly and periodically across the cross-section of the optical fiber. In number-mode PCF, each mode is utilized as a transmission channel, and by performing parallel transmission, transmission capacity can be expanded. A characteristic of the number-mode optical fiber is that the effective refractive index difference is relatively large and the group delay difference (DMD) between modes is small.
In this study, we analyzed the graded index (GI) type, which is a multi-mode GI-type PCF with uniform pore diameter and varying the pore pitch radially, and evaluated the effects of pore diameter d, pore pitch Λ, and number of pore layers on DMD and transmission loss.
